European Commission (EC) has released the selected projects to be funded under the NER 300 programme. A couple of CSP projects are included to be funded with up to 100 million euros.

The Commission has awarded 1 billion euros to 19 innovative renewable energy carbon capture and storage projects covering bioenergy (including advanced biofuels), Concentrated Solar Power, geothermal, wind, photovoltaics, ocean energy and smart grids. The projects will be hosted in 12 EU Member States: Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Regarding CSP, the selected projects are Mazara Solar in Italy and EOS Green Energy in Cyprus.

Mazara Solar, to be built in western Sicily is a proposed 50 MW plant with an "innovative" tower technology to produce superheated steam while storing thermal energy as saturated steam. The plant is expecte to generate about 534 GWh. The project could be funded with up to 40 million euros.

The EOS Green Energy project is described as a "multi-concentrated solar tower using superheated steam cycle and incorporates a graphite thermal storage". The technology to be used has been developed in Australia by Larkden Pty. The towers hold a graphite block which act as receiver and thermal storage system. A plant using this technology was built in 2011 at Lake Cargelligo in New South Wales, Australia. The project will receive a maximun 60.2 million euros form NER 300 funding programme.
