Torresol Energy
Promoter, Project developer, O&M, Engineering

Fruit of the alliance between SENER and Masdar, (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, ADFEC, company for the development of renewable energies launched by the investment company belonging to the Abu Dhabi Emirate, Mubadala Development Company), Torresol Energy was established with the aim of becoming a world leader in the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) sector and its mission is to promote technological development, construction, operation and maintenance of large concentrated solar power plants around the world.

At the same time, each of Torresol Energy's new projects will introduce and test new technologies to make Concentrated Solar Energy an economically competitive option and a real, viable, ecological and sustainable alternative to traditional energy sources. In this regard, conserving the environment for future generations is one of Torresol Energy's foundational commitments.

In the short term, Torresol Energy is focusing on three projects in the South of Spain: the innovative Gemasolar plant, a 19.9 MW solar power plant which is the first plant with central tower receiver technology and molten salt storage system, located in Fuentes de Andalucía, Seville; and two 50 MW plants using parabolic trough technology that are being built in Cadiz (Spain). These last two projects will start commercial operation in December 2011.

Besides, Torresol Energy has created the company Torresol O&M, highly specialized in the operation of solar thermal plants. It is comprised of a team of highly qualified professionals whose mission is to operate central tower technology and parabolic trough collector plants efficiently. The experience accumulated by a great number of professionals over the last few years endorses Torresol O&M's expertise in the solar thermal area.

Along with these three projects in Spain, Torresol Energy is actively developing new solar thermal plants in Abu Dhabi and the US. In this sense, the company's main areas of action for designing, constructing and commissioning of CSP plants will be Southern Europe, including Spain, Northern Africa, the Middle East and the South West of the US.

SENER Grupo de Ingeniería, S.A. controls 60% of Torresol Energy and Masdar controls the remaining 40%. The Spanish holding will contribute with its rich experience in developing state-of-the-art technology, as one of the world's leading engineering firms. Through this initiative, Masdar will help to diversify Abu Dhabi's economy and reinforce the country's image as an active agent in the global fight for sustainable development.
